They say everything happens for a reason.

I opened our hotel door at 4 AM to see Derek (Cajun) with his left eye swollen shut, and blood dripping from his left ear.

He was smiling.

“Don’t worry man, I got ‘em!”, he said, as he walked to the bathroom to check himself out. “There were three of them, I broke the first one’s nose, I smashed the second one’s head against a wall…” he trailed off as he looked at his wounded eye.

“What about the third one”

“He got me”, said Derek, as he wiped the blood from his face.

Keychain was sharing the room with Derek and I; he gave me a concerned look.

“You need to get your ass to hospital” I said.

Derek was exploring the wounds on his scalp, “Yeah… I know.”

They say everything happens for a reason, and I believe that. As bad as they were at the time, all my screw ups and failures and disasters have made me who I am today, and I’m pretty happy with that. But I’m having trouble figuring out why Cajun got beat up and robbed in Sydney Saturday night.

He got lost trying to walk back from the bar after the workshop, and wound up in an alleyway near the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Center. Three guys came out of nowhere (they had been hiding), and pushed him to the ground. They demanded his wallet, but instead of handing it to them, he got up fighting and took two out. The third got behind him and hit him in the back of the head with something hard; that was the end of the fight.

When he regained consciousness, he didn’t even remember who he was. Some good people at a pizza place helped him back to our hotel.

We took Derek to the emergency room, where he stayed all night. By 10am we had found out that his ocular socket had been broken, and that he wouldn’t be able to fly until he got surgery and healed for a week. And because of the Easter holidays, he wouldn’t be able to get surgery for two weeks. So we were stuck in Australia for three weeks, with not much money and not much to do.

We hung around Sydney for a few days, but we quickly got bored. Derek’s eye was healing, but it would still pop out of his head if he flew in an airplane. So we decided to rent a cheap camper van, and drive around Australia for a week or so till Derek gets his surgery. If everything happens for a reason, it doesn’t have to be obvious. Sometimes you need to look for that reason. So we drove up to Byron Bay. There’s a big festival going on here, and Ben Harper is playing.

Derek and I both decided that there’s no way the reason he got beat up was so that we could see a Ben Harper concert, so we’re still looking for our reason. We ran into some people we met in Sydney, and camped out next to the beach. It’s pretty nice.

We’ll be driving around the East Coast of Australia for 10 more days, before we go back to Sydney for Derek’s surgery. A week after that, we’ll be in Melbourne to give a free talk, run a bootcamp, and head back home. In the meantime, we’re still looking for our reason.

Thanks to everyone who offered support and concern, Derek’s doing pretty good right now, except for some headaches and frustration caused by not being able to go into the water. We’ll keep you posted.

I was teaching a pickup class in Calgary this weekend, which went amazing except for Saturday night, where I had a bit of a tragedy – my money amazing PUA super peacocking tie was stolen, and with it, a piece of my mojo. The culprit was a very sexy, tall 18 year old from Lethbridge. If anyone sees a girl in Lethbridge, AB, wearing a black tie with skulls on it, please call the police immediately.

Farewell Sweet Prince!

And remember kids, if you’re going to lead a girl around the bar with your tie, remember to get it back at the end of the night.

On the upside, Calgary was fun… I did a free talk on preventing flaking for the Calgary Lair, which was great – about thirty guys came out. And the girls were friendly AND hot. It’s as though they’d never been hit on by a sober guy before. They’re a bit shy though – I literally had to grab one girl’s arm and put it around me, and then TELL her to kiss me to start a makeout. It’s like she’d never made out with a dude in a bar before… weird.

And, as always, my students were great. They all had totally different problems and goals, but in the end, they all experienced some major changes this weekend. (Good luck guys and keep in touch!).

I look forward to coming back to Calgary again!

I teach men how to pick up women in Calgary every 4-6 months. If you’d like to learn how to pick up women in Calgary, check the Lovesystems homepage for my schedule. If there isn’t a class on the schedule, there will be in a few weeks.

Am I proud that I beat up a guy half my size? No.

Am I proud that I beat up a vegan? Hell YEAH!!

I often wonder how I get myself into these weird situations.

This summer, I went to Thailand for a few weeks, to chill out, hang with Sheriff, and get some writing done. While we were down there, we checked out Ko Phi Phi, a mind-bogglingly beautiful island off the west coast of Thailand, and met up with two friends, Tynan and Todd.

You may know Tynan as “Herbal T” from the game. Aside from running his blog he’s also traveling around the world with little more than a schoolbag’s worth of material possessions. You see, Tynan is a free spirit, the kind of guy who’s always up for an adventure, even if it’s probably not a good idea – kinda like me.

So, when we found out that there was a bar on Phi Phi that gives you free drinks for fighting your friends – we knew something fun was bound to happen.

I’d like to say that at first, I had qualms about fighting a friend who’s about 40 lbs lighter than me, but in all honesty, I really didn’t have any moral problems with it. Besides, Tynan is all into this veganism and cross-fit and health stuff, wheras I’m a beer and red meat kinda guy who gave up on working out when he found out he could get girls without being in shape.

We’re also pretty much exactly the same height, and the same age, so you could say this fight was ultimate test of fastideous healthy fitness vs raw animal fed bloodthirsty violence.

Ok, I’m being melodramatic here. It really was never a fair fight – I took boxing lessons a few summers back too.

Anyway, just because I clearly outweighed my opponent, didn’t mean I wasn’t still scared of him. I was really concerned that he would take advantage of the fact I was out of shape, and tire me out before pummeling me with his little weakling arms in the third round, when I was too tired to defend properly.

Also, I got a little drunk beforehand, just to even things up.

So we got in the ring, and there were probably over a hundred people watching us in a dingy, sweaty little bar, with the sound of thai music playing over the hum of the rickety old cooling fans.

We were suited up with ratty old gloves and Olympic-style headgear, so we wouldn’t hurt one another too badly, and our boxing shorts were literally splattered with the blood of previous contestants.

I bounced around to warm up. I threw some kicks to intimidate my opponent. The referee called us to the center of the ring. We touched gloves and it was on.

Tenmagnet v. Herbal

One thing I didn’t realize about boxing is how EXHAUSTING it is. Literally 15 seconds into the first round, I was completely exhausted. It’s not even like boxing in the gym – when someone really wants to hit you, your body just turns on the furnace and won’t let up. You’re completely, blind exhausted, but your body won’t let you stop fighting.

It was fucking cool.

Tynan was keeping his guard up, and managed to bounce some hits off the side of my head, because I wasn’t holding my hands high enough. Headache city. I threw some punches and kept him off balance, but he managed to get me one right in the face. I got him too, and knocked him on his ass.

Finally, after three rounds, it was over. That was the longest ten minutes of my life! I had a bloody nose, but had managed to knock Tynan down a few times. My head was pounding from the four or five shots he’d managed to get in. Tynan isn’t just a cool guy, and a good friend, he’s a vicious little bugger!

I had won, and got a free “bucket” of dirty thai booze and red bull, which I could barely enjoy because I was dizzy and messed up from the fight. Tynan and I shook hands, congratulated one another, and tried to stop our heads from spinning.

Truly an awesome experience.

Tynan has a lot of amazing stories, and definitely deserves a plug here Check out his blogs at www.lifenomadic.com and www.betterthanyourboyfriend.com

I watched the Dr. Phil Interview with Paul Janka the other day, and I think I can summarize it like this:

Tall, good looking Harvard grad manages to sleep with 138 women over 10 years by devoting his entire life to getting laid.

Now, I’m not suggesting that Paul Janka has no game – I’m sure he can get a number in a club as good as any other guy out there, and I don’t doubt that he’s slept with 138 or however many women. But the fact is, the kind of attitude that Paul Janka represents is, in my opinion, the bad side of the community. I really don’t think guy in the community should be using him as a role model.

For example.

He mentions at one point that “on a good week, I go on 10-15 dates”. Where the hell does he find the time to go on 15 dates a week? That’s 780 dates a year! Even if you presume that he sleeps with 138 women a YEAR, that means he’s getting shut down 642 times! And he’s been doing this for how many years? No wonder he needs to be cheap

Clearly, Paul Janka has some serious problems with his game, and you can see it in the way that women react to him.

Now, I know that the Dr. Phil show deliberately creates drama and is happy to make people look bad if they can get raitings – heck, they tried to do something similar when Lovesystems was on the show – but you can tell that the women in the audience, and the women who interacted with Paul were NOT impressed by him. Even if it was a bit of a setup, the sentiment was genuine.

He set off their creep radar.

Deep down inside, you can tell from Paul’s writings and his attitude that he doesn’t really like or understand women.

He says you need to “avoid being manipulated by a woman’s agenda”… what agenda? If you’ve done things right, her agenda will be to hook up with you. Likewise he says you shouldn’t eat with women because they feel “bloated and uncomfortable” – that’s just bizarre.

Either Paul Janka is dating some pretty messed up women (I can believe this), or his understanding of women is warped by his own insecurities.

Now, I know people are going to say “he’s just saying you shouldn’t put a woman on a pedestal”. Well, there’s a difference between not putting a woman on a pedestal and being contemptuous and fearful of them. Paul’s emphasis on “the woman’s agenda” subcommunicates that he thinks women are out to get him, and that women aren’t capable of enjoying his company for it’s own sake.

Does Paul Janka maybe have some good ideas?

Sure. I agree with him that you shouldn’t spend too much money on women, and that you shouldn’t put them on a pedestal or let them push you around, but even a broken clock is right two times a day.

The problem is the overarching theme of Janka’s “method”, his so called attraction formula, is one which encourages being suspicious and defensive around women, and one which presumes that women are out to get you and manipulate you. And if you accept that frame, accept that mindset, you’re going to become a creep.

And you’re going to have to go on 15 dates a week, just to get laid.

See my other post, in which I am meaner to Paul Janka.

Tynan and Todd were getting tuxedos made, white, to symbolize “ballin”, and I wanted to get a good business suit because at $300, I really can’t afford not to.

We did a bit of research, and decided to go to a tailor on Sukhumvit who has actually made a bunch of suits for George W. Bush and his father. How pimp is that? A suit made by the president’s tailor! So what if it’s a crappy president like GWB?

I wonder where Barack Obama gets his suits done.

I haven’t updated my blog in quite a while, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been up to anything. Some unanticipated events left me with the month of June off, and nothing to do with my time, so I decided to hop in a plane and head out to Thailand, where I’ve been for the past week.

Sheriff is out here, so we’ve been hanging together and went out to Ko Phi Phi, which is where The Beach was filmed. We met up there with Todd and Tynan (aka, Herbal from The Game), who are traveling the world and blogging about it on www.lifenomadic.com. Both guys are a lot of fun, and we’ve gotten up to quite a few shenannigans, including a boxing match between Tynan and I that earned us both a bucket of rum, earned me my first boxing victory, and Tynan got some good stuff from his blog and the right to say he bloodied up my nose pretty bad.

All in all, I’ve realized something important out here. You can’t be bored when you’re surrounded by interesting people, and you’ll always be bored when you’re surrounded by boring people. The contrast between grad school this winter, where I was surrounded by far too many negative types, and this summer, where I’ve been hanging out with great guys like Cajun, Sheriff and Herbal, is huge. Surrounding yourself with good people is one of the best things you can do for your life.

Anyway, there are a lot more stories to come from Thailand yet… I’ll keep you posted

I’m in Montreal right now, getting ready for my Montreal bootcamp this weekend.

Anyway, it’s great to be here, because I think Montreal is probably the best city in the world for teaching and practicing pick-up. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about the girls in this city, they’re smart, sexy and really, really easy to talk to.

I think it has something to do with the economy in the city. Montreal is probably the only city in North America where you can be 22 years old, work in a Starbucks and still make enough money for a nice little apartment downtown and have some cash left to drink three nights a week. So young people from all across Canada (and the US) move down and spend their early 20′s here.

Also, there’s the French culture in Quebec, which is *really* laid back. And even though it’s mostly a French thing, the French “lassez-faire” attitude affects the English people in Montreal too. Despite being technically a Catholic culture, the French in Montreal have a really laid back attitude towards sex and relationships. None of the puritanical hangups that Americans and English Canadians are usually saddled with. Just a fun-loving, sex-positive culture. Love it.

Oh, and did I mention that the girls here are hot? Yeah, they’re ridiculously hot. Not big breasted blondes like Miami and LA, but more petite, elegant brunettes, in that traditionally French kind of way. Like this

Anyway, there are still a few spots left on the upcoming Montreal bootcamp. Of all the places you could chose to do a bootcamp, I definitely recommend Montreal for those of you who are considering it. You can sign up at www.lovesystems.com

Here’s a good story for you guys, it happened to me in New York this spring.

I was there visiting a buddy who I will refer to as K (don’t know if he posts here). We were walking through the NoLita neighborhood checking for sets, on the way to meet up with some of K’s friends. We has spent all afternoon doing day game, and were a little bit “sarged out”. I was looking forward to sitting down, having a beer and watching the hockey game (the Stanley Cup was on).

Walking down the street, I see a girl sitting outside a fancy-pants bar smoking a cigarette. K says to me, “do you think that was Kursten Dunst”, and I say… “nahh….. was it?”

No lie guys, Kirsten Dunst was having a cigarette outside this bar, and I wasn’t going to let that opportunity go by!

So, we turn around, and head into the bar in question. It’s totally packed, and I quickly ascertain that Kirsten is in a back corner, surrounded by an entourage of about 8 people. There is no lock in position, and it looks like a tough situation.

I talk to the waiter, and arrange for us to get the table closest to theirs, it will be at least 20 minutes.

I decide my best bet is to sarge her when she goes out for her next cigarette, there will be an interrupt 10 minutes in (as they finish their cigarettes and go inside), but that’s enough time to get locked into a set, to the point where they’re pursuing conversation with me.

I buy a cigarette off a guy nearby and get ready…

Kirsten walks out with 2 friends (guy and girl) to have a cigarette… I pause a minute or so, and join them.

10M: “Hey, (to Kirsten’s friend) can I get a light?”
Entourage: “No problem”…
10M: “Allright (engaging guy and girl, ignoring Kirsten), check this out. My buddy, Dave, just called me to say he can’t make it out tonight, because (jealous girlfreind opener)… are like, New York girls crazy or what?”
Entourage: Yada yada yada…

10M: “Ok, check out my crazy New Yorker story… this just happened to me today, and I’m visiting from out of town”
Kirsten: “Are you from Canada?? ABOOT ABOOT… I can tell!!!”
10M: “Listen, little one, don’t make me come down there!… So I’m at the corner of 1st and 60th, and this old, beat up car comes to the intersection. It’s spewing black, oily smoke, and there’s actually FLAME licking out from under the bumper… like an honest to goodness FLAME.”

“So I try and wave this guy down, and he doesn’t see me. So I walk in front of the car, yelling ‘DUDE!! YOUR CAR IS ON FIRE!! GET OUT’… and the guy’s window is open, and he can hear me. And you know what he does???”

(at this point, I make a face and give Kirsten Dunst and her entourage the finger)..”He flips me the bird and drives off in his burning fucking car!!!”

(Everyone laughs)

Kirsten: “New Yorkers are so mean” (kinos me)..

I’m thinking to myself… “Did Kirsten Dunst just kino me? Did she just run her hand down my arm??”

Yes she did… and it was legit.

I holds out my hands in front of me… Kirsten puts her hands in mine, palm down (IOI).

I look at her palms, raise my eyebrow and say “Hmm… interesting”, and push her palms away.

Kirsten: “What… what???”

I walk past Kirsten and lean against some fancy car parked in front of the club… the alarm doesn’t go off (thankfully… that would have sucked BAD). Kirsten follows.

Kirsten Dunst is now facing me, as I lean up against some fancy car, and her hands are in mine. I begin running a palmreading routine.

Kirsten is eating up my palmreading routine, but at this point her friends have finished their cigarettes, and are going inside. I’m losing Kirsten – she is being pulled away by her friends, and feels uncomfortable being outside, alone, with a guy she just met. I’m also at a good point in the palmreading routine, where I feel she is hooked on hearing the end of it… if an interrupt is to come, this is the best time for it.

10M: “Your friends are leaving… go join them… shoo”. And I push her away… she smiles at me and goes back into the bar.

As I get back into the bar, the waiters are just about ready to give us our seats… very good. We wait a few minutes, and start to take our seats.

As we sit down, Kirsten’s table gets up to leave. I’m like “crap!!!” and start thinking of what I can do to save this sarge. They go outside, and I pop out 30 seconds later (don’t want to look like I’m chasing them), and they’re already halfway down the street… and just like that, Kirsten Dunst is gone!

Oh well… it was an awesome experience. And the really cool thing that I noticed was that Kirsten Dunst is a really normal girl… like there wasn’t any difference between sarging her and any other girl you meet at a club. It was really cool to realize that even celebs like Kirsten Dunst are just normal girls, with normal interests, insecurities and regular lives. No doubt, next time I run into a celebrity, I’ll be ready!

For your amusement, I have attached an artists impression of what me sarging Kirsten Dunst might have looked like, if I had a camera with me at the time.

So I dropped Olga off at the airport last night. This was the first time I’d gone on a trip with someone I was dating, and it was a good experience.

It was interesting though to spend a week with her and to see the way she interacts with the world and with men. In many ways, her life is typical of many beautiful women you will meet.

First of all, you can’t leave her alone at a bar for a minute before some chode (my generic term for any guy I don’t respect) comes and hits on her. If I turn around to get a beer, some dude is grinding up next to her in 30 seconds. When she went to the parking lot to drop off some clothes she had bought, some guy offered her $1,000 for sex.

No wonder a lot of beautiful women can have a cynical attitude about men. No wonder they travel in groups, and go to the bathroom together. The average guy acts pretty lame around her, and a small number of guys act downright creepy. It was strange enough to experience this for a week, but Olga has dealt with this since she was 14 years old.

What makes the Mystery Method so powerful is that for all the guys who incompetently hit on her, I never saw a guy actually do a smooth approach. Every guy who says “you’re pretty” as the first thing out of his mouth, or leans in, just makes it more remarkable when one of my students approaches the way you’re SUPPOSED to approach
