Montreal Pick Up Artist Venues

ST. LAURENT STREET

St. Laurent street is the heart of Montreal, and probably the best all-around neighborhood for picking up. The area of St. Laurent street between Sherbrooke and Avenue des Pins is the busiest area. Good venues include Rouge, B-Side, Biftek, Tokyo Bar, and Cafe Campus (just along Prince Arthur).

Age Range: Like most of Montreal, St Laurent attracts a younger crowd than most other cities. 18-29 is the age range at most venues, though some of the nicer places closer to Sherbrooke skew a little bit older.

Crowd Comments: The vibe in St. Laurent is really nice and friendly. It’s more French than Crescent street, but a unilingual anglophone wouldn’t have any problem chatting people up. Like most of Montreal, the dress style is really casual, so it’s really easy to stand out as the best-dressed guy in the room.

Getting in: St. Laurent starts up late – expect the doors to be locked at 10pm, and the real action to start after 11. Aside from that, small ($5-$10) covers are usual, but door policies are pretty lax otherwise.

CRESCENT STREET

Affectionately referred to as “la rue des anglais et yankee” by the locals, Crescent street is the most English nightclub district in Montreal. Personally, I think hanging out in the English part of Montreal missed the entire point of being there, but it is a good place if your French is terrible, and Quebecois girls often head down there with the hopes of picking up an anglo guy. This neighborhood is also a bit rowdier, cheaper and less classy than St-Laurent or St. Denis.

Age Range: Pretty young. There are a lot of McGill and Concordia students running around, so mostly 18-25. Older crowds can be found at The Sir Winston Churchill Pub (middle floor), or at Thursdays next door. The Madd Hatter’s and McKibbins the next street over are also quite good.

Getting in: If you can’t get into a club on Crescent street, you’re fucked. Small covers apply, but dress standards are abysmally low.

Crowd Comments: You’re not likely to get into a fight in Montreal, but if you were, it would probably happen on Crescent.

Montreal PUA

ST. DENIS

St. Laurent’s more francophone sister street, St. Denis is a wonderful place to meet women. But be aware that you will be dealing with a French crowd in a French environment. If you speak the slightest bit of French, or have a good excuse as to why you can’t (i.e. you’re a foreigner), you should be ok. But don’t just run around being loud and English – it’s considered rude. My favorite place on St. Denis is La Saint Sulpice, which is a large beer garden just north of St-Catherine street. Les Foufounes Électriques is on St Cathrine near St Laurent and on Thursday night, it’s packed with gorgeous women aged 18-20. That’s probably the best place for a Montreal PUA on a Thursday night.

Age Range: St. Denis attracts the full spectrum of Montreallers.

Crowd Comments: Efforts to speak French are appreciated, and you’ll really have a tough time if you don’t speak the language here.

Montreal PUA Day 2s

So you’ve met a lovely Montreal girl, and you want to take her somewhere on a date. Here’s a list of the best places to take a date in Montreal.

TAM-TAMS

Pretty much everyone in Montreal knows about the tam-tams which go on every Sunday afternoon. This is a great place to drop by during the course of a date.

THE OLD PORT

Montreal’s old port is gorgeous, and has an excellent mix of shops, restaurants and amazing architecture. You can literally just meet up anywhere near there and have a walk around. Good nightspots are Salle a Manger and Philemon. Haven’t taken a date to these places yet, but they look like they’d be nice on a weeknight.

THE PLATEAU

St. Laurent Street and St Denis are great little places to walk around, especially on a weekday evening. You’ll pass a never ending procession of great restaurants, bars and stores. Late in the evening, listen for the sound of music and stop in. Probably the best place to take a date in the Plateau is the Big in Japan Bar – it’s a hidden little gem near Rachel and St Laurent (the door south of Patiti-Patata). It’s a bit pricey ($8 pints) but has an amazing atmosphere and every girl I have taken to this place has been really impressed. Don’t confuse the Big in Japan Bar with the Big in Japan Restaurant at des Pins and St Laurent, they’re owned by the same people, but have completely different atmospheres.  Another good and reliable venue is Casa Del Popolo.

Other Montreal PUA Resources

GO MONTREAL

Technically, this a tourist website, but a Montreal PUA can uncover information on bars, events and unknown areas of the city.

NIGHTLIFE.CA

This site is loaded with info and is written in French.

MONTREAL LAIR

What a great looking site design for a lair. Montreal has a long-standing community dating back to the Cliff’s List days.

There’s also the Attraction Forums Montreal Quebec PUA Forum that is a good place to meet wingmen and trade advice.
