This is an interesting article I found on Slate.com

Essentially, the argument goes kind of like this.. (quoted from the article)

The pill also meant women felt more able to postpone marriage—why hurry? They could enjoy sex and a career without rushing to get married. And as more intelligent women delayed getting hitched, that meant that more intelligent men would be floating around, unattached. The dating scene became a more interesting place to dip in and out of for a decade or so, and the risk of being “left on the shelf” plummeted. The fewer people sprinted up the aisle, the less need for others to hurry. It looked like a cultural shift, but it had rational roots.

This sounds quite compelling to me… I’m 27 years old right now, and I really don’t see myself getting married for a hell of a long time. Sometimes I wonder if pickup has ruined me for marriage, that I’ll never ever settle down (if I wanted to), but I like this answer a lot better.

It just makes sense for guys these days to remain single well into their thirties. There are a lot more options these days for a single guy than there ever was before, and women are pretty much doing the same thing we are.

So we can afford to be choosy, and in the event that we eventually decided to settle down (wayyyyyy off in the future), we’ll know that the girl we picked was top-of the line.

Anyway, I’m interested in hearing what you guys think of this article.
