  • Social V. Rational intelligence

One thing I’ve noticed from being in the “community”, is that there are a LOT of really smart guys out there who are pretty bad with women. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that smart guys seem to have a harder time getting girls than dumb guys do.

How can this be? Especially since most women, when asked, will say that intelligence is one of the top things they look for in a guy. If intelligence is sexy, how come intelligent guys aren’t?

The answer, is that there are two types of intelligence, and the one most guys in the community have is the one that *isn’t* sexy. But the good part is, as with any skill, you can learn social intelligence with time. But it requires you to seriously reprogram your brain. Social intelligence requires a completely different way of thinking.

The basic premise is that the kind of intelligence that makes an excellent engineer, banker, or businessman is pretty counterproductive for understanding women, and people in general. Rational logic involves learning a set of rules, be they accounting rules, or the laws of physics or chemistry, and applying those rules consistently and correctly.

On the other hand, with social logic, the hard part is simply finding out what the rules actually are for a particular situation, and if you can figure that out, what to do usually comes pretty easily. Social intelligence requires a lot of thinking with your gut – there are too many factors in play for you to sift through a pile of rules and find out which one works.
